In this drawing class, we will explore the life and work of Ithell Colqhoun, a British surrealist artist, writer, and occultist. Colqhoun’s art and writing were deeply informed by her interest in mysticism, mythology, and the occult. She was also known for her distinctive approach to landscape painting, which often incorporated mystical and symbolic figure.

This session will explore Colqhoun’s incredible oeuvre with a short talk by our tutor Luisa MacCormack, before exploring ways in which we can question the limits of landscape and the body through imaginative exercises, using surrealist techniques and drawing from iconic landscapes all over the her.

🎨MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED🎨

Pencils – we’d love you to use colour for this one, pastel pencils or charcoal pencils would be great

Watercolour

Acrylic Paint if you have it- please don’t be put off by this, we’ll be using it in quite an unusual way!
