YOUNISS
Genre alchemist Youniss is an experimenter of genres, giving them his own unique twist. His stunning live set (complete with drummer!) puts you on a rollercoaster of hip-hop, R&B and Arabic influences, when you’re not bouncing to electronica, drum-‘n-bass and techno. As an exploration of identity and self-expression, Youniss moves his way through the awkward, intrusive feelings that accompany performing as a black man with an Arabic name through the gaze of the western world. On his album, ‘White Space’, the Antwerp-based musician and visual artist shares the unsettling story of a personal panic attack instilled by these feelings. In the performative translation of this album, Youniss and drummer Tim Caramin take you along Youniss’ discomfort through music, visual installation, and costume design. It’s an experience not to be missed.
BRORLAB
Psychedelic gabber punk from Antwerp. with voice, guitar, bass and a smartphone, Sam, Raf and Casper provide cutting-hard, short blitzkrieg concerts on which are head-shakingly delicious.
Their new record « Workin’ out in Heaven » was released on September 15 on the London label La Vida Es Un Mus.
BOROKOV BOROKOV
If anything could be called Borokov Borokov’s formula, it probably would be derived from the following quote: “First and foremost we make music that we ourselves want to dance to. Even when the music in question does not immediately sound like dance music. »
The result may resemble for example angular synth pop, … work incapacitated hi-NRG, krauttrock with a double ‘t’, supra-freudian elektrapunk, birthday-themed acid house, no-no wave, polyphonic panic attacks or multilingual lamentation. As if with each track, the band seizes a new opportunity to waltz out of the confines of its own straitjacket, albeit with no guarantee of success. They found their first drum machine on a rubbish dump in Borsbeek.
New album POTATATO was released by Amsterdam label Magnetron Music on September 15. On September 24 Rotkat Records and het balanseer released the live-album ’80 Minutes in 3FM’s Livebox’.
